What's this on my potatoes....is it OK to eat?

Hi, just digging up potatoes and a few of them had this web like fungus attached to them. Any thought on what it is and whether they're still ok to eat? Thanks, Lee

  • Snip off, scrub potatoes cook and eat  :)
  • Great, thought so! I guess there's even more going on in the soil we can't see 😁 first year growing veg so learning!
  • I think you’re right in that it is some kind of fungus, but I’d guess that it’s not harmful to your potatoes. It’s the time of year for seeing fungi, and much of it is beneficial to the soil - a lot of the fungi we see above ground is only the tip of the iceberg, so to speak, their tendrils (not quite the correct terminology, but the proper name escapes me), spread in a very far-reaching way underground - it’s really fascinating.

@Red maple   😊 although we’re on holiday somehow my brain managed to come up with the proper word 😲 it’s Mycelium 😊

  • Thank you @Dovefromabove. Yes, you’re right. It’s fascinating stuff, isn’t it - travels for miles underground, I believe  :).
