Excellent, thanks Mike - I think I saw it on the telly years ago.
If only I had £10m to spend on a 36 acre greenhouse :)

  • 36ft high plants too!
So how are we going to get more Co2 to our plants?
I've got some plum wine on the go, that makes lots of it. maybe i'll put the bucket with the toms  :p

I used to have a 5ft tropical fish tank that had CO2 injectors and metal halide lighting.
I had one of those big cylinders about 4ft tall that would last about 1 year.
A pH monitor controlled the amount of CO2 that got dissolved into the tank. It was fascinating to watch the bubbles of CO2 whizzing around the reactors then dissolve into the water - the plants grew like crazy! Each week I'd take out a bucket full of prunings.

I recall the CO2 used in the tomato house comes from the nearby waste water treatment facility

  • Yes, both the heat and gas are by-products from a nearby factory. It has to be free otherwise it won't work as a business.
Composting gives off a healthy supply of Co2, but it produces methane too. I'm not sure what the plants would take from that, but it's not what you want a greenhouse full of.
