ROSES: Autumn/Winter 2022-23
Welcome to the new Autumn/Winter rose thread, posters old and new!
I’m sure there are lots more end-of-season roses to share, tell us how this challenging season went for you, which roses shone and which have a date with the shovel. What are your recent purchases, lists and future plans? Ask for or share your tips, recommendations or advice or just have a natter on any old rosey topic 🌹
As you can see, flower arranging is not my bag, but here’s some blooms in suitably autumnal colours to start us off - Super Trouper, Julia Child, Lady Emma Hamilton, Golden Celebration and a dahlia bloom plonked in the middle:

Thanks for the new thread.🌺
A better year next year to you, purplerallim.🌸
Ha, no I couldn’t being myself to buy a rose with that name either, WAMS. It’s Souvenir de Marcel Proust, but could be any number of Austin yellows - reminds me of The Pilgrim with those pale edges.
I don't mind starting threads for future ref but I wouldn't be too comfortable offering advice, I'm a wing-it gardener too and my preferred kind of rose are the ones that do well in spite of me. So long as the other better rosy folk would pitch in for that
@WhereAreMySecateurs, I've only just caught up with the back end of the old thread so not sure if you went ahead with Vintage Classic. Mine is a year one and I have it in a west facing large pot. I don't think I had one perfect flower on it although it produced many. Most got fried in the sun or I'm guessing from these two below, partially fried/damaged at bud stage. I do like the antiquey rose colouring and this year I had allsorts crisping up so I am not judging it. I am going to move it further up my drive so it gets the sun later in the day.
I just ran out to get a photo of it. It is looking nice and healthy although it has a balled flower. I'm still blaming the weather and not the plant though.
This was a nice surprise. The last time I looked at Draga (a few hours ago) it was holding onto a lot of aging manky flowers. I wasn't doing rose admin so left it, now after a heavy rain shower which knocked off all the old cr8p I see there was already a fresh clutch of new buds coming through. I've been happy with this year's Pheno Geno experiment, hope the rest of you have enjoyed yours.
Editing to add I've ordered my last rose, Rose De Alhambra from Jones the Rose. I had 4 or 5 on my wishlist so think I was extremely restrained. It is a sport of Rose de Rescht so I am hoping for another (slightly different colour) superstar as a bench companion.
