  • Sorry was on my flamingo tree
  • Hello @ritaheal  and welcome to the forum 😊

DONT worry … Flamingo trees are a type of willow and as tough as old boots as long as they  have plenty of water.

You could take a photo and upload it here so we can take a look … but pruning won’t kill a willow. 😊

  • What Dove said. Gave ours a decent haircut last year and it's never looked better! Also benefitted from a lot of washing up water this year, and seems quite happy.

  • Thank you for your post should the next big trim be in March

Not sure if the link is working, but this has good info. We did ours late-Autumn last year but missed the summer trim. Definitely giving it another in a few weeks time once all the leaves have dropped.

I could n't get out of the quote frame.

If your washing up water is very greasy, this will build up and clog the compost.  And the soap will not be good for the insect life.

  • Yes … the pink colour is on the new growth, so pruning in late winter will stimulate lots of new pink shoots.

If you scroll down on the link @Heartinthedirt  posted you’ll find this

    “…Pruning
A late winter prune will encourage lush foliage growth and plenty of new pink foliage – trim growth back by about one third. Also remove any dead, damaged or diseased shoots, plus any that are growing the wrong way. Also trim away any shoots that are sprouting from the grafted stem. You can trim lightly again in summer to encourage more fresh pink growth later in the season...”

  • Thank you so much for that
