Not sure if the link is working, but this has good info. We did ours late-Autumn last year but missed the summer trim. Definitely giving it another in a few weeks time once all the leaves have dropped.

If your washing up water is very greasy, this will build up and clog the compost. And the soap will not be good for the insect life.

Yes … the pink colour is on the new growth, so pruning in late winter will stimulate lots of new pink shoots.
