Young climbing rose prune...
I have two climbing roses, both planted this year, i'm tying the rear stems to my trellis as desired but the front-growing ones, do they get pruned off?
My guess would be to just remove the growth thats heading where i don't want it but being new to all this i'm not 100%
The front one has grown about 4 feet in three months - is that normal?

If you let the stems just grow upward, you'll get lots of flowers right at the top and not many lower down.
Tying the stems in a zig-zag forces the stems to produce flowers.

The more horizontal you can get the stems the more flower shoots will appear from the leaf nodes.
With long stems I usually do it in stages over a couple of weeks so that the stem doesn't kink, but even if it does, it doesn't seem to make much difference.
