Could anyone identify this please.

This was cut into a hedge, obviously pretty hardy, because it's right by the beach going from Eastbourne Harbour to Pevensey Bay. It's slightly prickly, with tiny tubular shaped deep cerise pink flowers.

    It looks rather like an escallonia of some sort - just a guess though

    Definitely Escallonia sp/cultivar.
    Your pics show it after the petals have dropped of ...just leaving the calyx.

  • Agree with escallonia. Quite often recommended as a shrub suitable for coastal planting.

    do the crushed leaves smell slightly of pineapple?
