Get your flu vaccination

  • I have my flu jab booked for mid Oct. I will be offered the Covid booster at the same time. I am wondering if it would be sensible to delay having the Covid jab by a few weeks in case I have side effects, even if mild, from the flu jab. Sometimes I do not know I have had the flu vaccination, other times I feel a bit coldy for a few days afterward.
I had Covid between Christmas and the New Year before the pandemic was recognized and have only this summer recovered from long covid.

If it were me and this is a personal, rather than my medical opinion, I would have them as soon as I was offered them. The longer you leave it, the more chance of getting the illness.

I'm having my 4th Covid booster on Tuesday but haven't heard anything from our Surgery about the flu jab yet. That suits me as I'd rather have them at different times anyway.

  • I've not heard from our surgery about flu jabs, but Boots had a notice up about a month ago that they're starting from this week, so I booked in there.  I've had my flu jabs there ever since I used to have them privately (paid for by work) because I was a front line worker with vulnerable children.  Now I don't have to pay ... the pharmacy just notifies the GP practice so they can tick me off on their list. ☑

My parents have appointments for their COVID vaccines this week but haven't been offered flu vaccines yet. They're going to a pharmacy that isn't particularly local but is on a convenient bus route for them. Their GP isn't organising it this time, so possibly the arrangements vary between GP practices.

Just read that over 50's can now book their covid booster but not entirely sure that is correct, best to check.

I think very much depends on your sugery. It's still over 75s by me.  The clinic vols are saying the rate of expansion is very depends on the number of vols they can get to help. Fewer locals are offering to help here this time around. All the clinics locally are offering different things. We have to check carefully how their capacity is standing, when they will be open, when they have staff and who can go along.
