Cucumbers & corgettes

Lovingly cared  feed and watered. Flowers appearred, then little signs of a cucumber  corgette starting,  but then nothing else.  No more growth, turn yellow fall off. Leaves removed to allow more light. What did I do wrong.? So disappointed.

  • There was no cross pollination from the male flower to the female.
Then you took the leaves off which was a bad move. That's akin to taking the solar panels off a house roof and wondering why the lights won't come on.
  • you also spelled courgette wrong you forgot the "u"
also you basically sabotaged yourself. removing leaves
is stupid and counterproductive practice.  unless the leaf is already dead.

I don't think plants care either way how anyone spells their names, they don't take offence and refuse to perform.
@darcy1, live and learn, you might have better success next year. My cucumbers and courgettes aren't doing as well as usual and the only thing that's different is the weather. I don't know whether the excessive heat affected growth or pollination but they seemed to stand still for a few weeks after we had those few really hot days (high 30s to 40C) despite plenty of watering.

I've had a bizarre year with courgettes this year.  Sowed 3 seeds.  Came up and produced.  But the courgettes didn't  get bigger than a finger before they became yellow and died.  Sowed 5 more seeds elsewhere.  They came up.  The first three plants are producing more courgettes than I can eat and the next five are coming up the rear.

The air has been very hot this year, so no matter how much we water, fertiliser and hoe the plants, the air temperature is important.  It was too hot, too quickly.

I snip off the yellowing leaves at the base of my courgette plants.
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

    ....... (pressed the post button!!).

Sowed cucumbers last year.  Lots of flowers but no fruit.  Sowed cucumbers this year in a different spot and they produced well, albeit the last fruit were bitter.  I sowed a few more seeds - in a different spot - on the 10th July.  They are quite high with lots of flowers but so far no fruit.

    Isn't nature wonderful??!!

@war garden 572 you make all sorts of grammatical errors but none of us would dream of being so rude as to correct you.  It’s also very rude to call people stupid.

Are you having a bad day?

Hope the next one is better. 😊

Just joined GW first time I reach out and wow. But thank you to everyone else. Sort of put me off asking anything again for risk  of being ridiculed. We all have to start and learn at some point.
    Rant over, 👍🤷‍♀️🤣
