Using Ollas to water

Hello,

Does anyone have experience using ollas to water their outdoor plants? I was thinking about using this technique if it would allow me to add bog or more water thirsty plants. Are there different types of plants that would benefit by this technique? Any that would be harmed? Some plants like to be watered heavily and then dry out. Would I have to keep them away?

I have been looking at the use of ollas for my garden for a while now and haven't got round to using them yet, too many other things have got in the way this year, but I am going to buy some unglazed  clay pots and lids which are much cheaper than the made ones and see how they work. A must I feel if this type of weather is to continue with watering restrictions.
