Raspberry virus?

Can anyone advise what is the likely cause of this random spotting/mottling on this year's new raspberry canes? They're virtually all showing signs. Canes have been in about 4 years and cropped very well so far. Last year's canes cropped well this year but new growth all like this. Doesn't look a classic deficiency pattern to me. Any ideas? Thanks!

    I'd guess so.
Unfortunately there are no remedies, but on the plus side some of the viruses don't  cause much of a problem.
They are often transmitted by bees and the like via pollen or aphids, so if there are infected canes in another garden near you they may be the source.

I had Glen Moy with a dwarfing virus. I dug them all up and left the area bare for a year. I'm going to replant with Malling Jewel this winter and hope for the best.

See how yours go. If the yield drops and the canes get shorter each year then best to replace them - but the virus may return.

Thanks, I had a little bit of it last year on some of the new canes and I'm pretty sure it was those that didn't do well this year and haven't really shot up many decent new canes so it looks like it's the the end of the road for my raspberries! Appears to have a fairly significant effect the year after the mottling appears but presumably not that common as I can't find any info online at all or any pics that show anything similar.

Try the RHS website. Sorry I can't seem to post the link from my phone.  Go to rhs and look for advice.

Thanks very much both, yes, I hadn't found that RHS page but the photo on there is very similar to the symptoms I've got so looks like a virus and that they've all got to go. What with viruses, nutrient deficiencies and being a bit fussy about soil types they're not the easiest fruit to grow!

If you have space try to plant in a new position.  Prepare the ground as per RHS  reccomended method. Use root grow when you plant,  they will establish much more strongly.
