I remember back in the 90’s. driving  up to Holland on Sea to visit my aunt and the further I got,  the dryer and parched it all looked.
I feel very sorry for everyone in this drought,   Although I suppose we all play our part in the climate situation.
What can be done?  I haven’t a clue, warmer oceans and this will happen frequently,  and until the ‘powers that be’ say that things have to change,  then they’ll stay as they are,  as my dear old mum used to say.

As we are surrounded by water why haven't the water companies invested in desalination plants?

As far as I know desalination is a very energy hungry process.  It was always considered uneconomic in the UK,  it would be even more so now.

Too busy paying their shareholders @KT53
Mine is still green and I'm cutting it but less frequently and on a higher setting

The grass here is so dry and crisp it crumbles to dust when you walk on it. I remember the drought of ‘76 very clearly … I was in Suffolk caring for a tiny @WonkyWomble … the grass was not as bad as this … but we were on clay there … here we’re on gritty free-draining stuff.  :/

I remember it too with small child and another on the way ,the grass was non existent. We went on holiday to Cornwall the only week it rained and folk were dancing in the street because the rain had come at last .We just wanted to take our toddler to the beach but couldn’t because of the heavy rain .Is that irony ?

Population growth is the cause?  Solution, more difficult.
