Tasteless Roma tomatoes

Hi! Why are my Roma tomatoes tasteless? They're not watery at all, and they don't have a nice texture either.
Thanks!

Forgive me if you're already aware but they're cooking Tom's.
  • Oh absolutely, but shouldn't they still have a taste for a nice rich Roma sauce?
  • Have you made sauce with them?
  • Only one has ripened so no. But I've had Roma tomatoes before and they're not completely tasteless. Has anyone had tasteless Roma tomatoes?

I have grown the free G W Roma this year, I find them a bit on the bland side but my wife says they are nice, I will put in the pot with the left over chicken from Sundays roast to see what happens there. The ones outside seemed to be more prolific than the ones in the greenhouse.
  • GW knows it's demographic  :D
I think I'm "guilty" of not removing leaves in time, and I could have fed them more it seems.

I'm not sure I would believe the latter part of that and wonder who wrote it. I've got toms in full sun not ripening and ones in the shade ripening, if you look up what ripens tomatoes sun is not one of them.

It's not your sense of taste is it? Post Covid or otherwise.
I know mine is terrible so always have to ask other people for their opinion.

It's a difficult balancing act,  but over watering can result in lack of flavour.  Under watering,  can result in blossom end rot. Night time temperatures have a big influence on flavour as well.

  • Wow that's weird, about the sun. It's in Monty's month section but who knows...

Sense of taste is fine, as is my partner's, but good thinking!

Oh well, I'll try another variety next year
