Does Chamaerops humilis have a trunk? Some photos on the internet show one, some don't. Does it develop one as it grows taller?

They are often referred to as bushy palms, expanding outwards with side shoots and can be as wide as they are high.  I have one in a pot and have been removing all side shoots and lower leaves in an attempt to create a more trunk like appearance - not sure it's working yet!  There's some interesting background information here: Chamaerops humilis - Big Plant Nursery
