thanks fidget, hope you are wrong i have not bought either plant, so fingers crossed that pp has got it right love that Lagerstroemia. not keen on hypericums,

@gardengeek I don't think your photos are a dark leaved hypericum, I have three the same in my garden but with very dark leaves, ocre flowers and dark red berries. I could recommmend these shrubs but I have never been sure of a name. They look good even in this hot weather. Not the most choice plant but holding up well so I am more than happy. Perhaps Myrtle will be hardy here in years to come.
