Dahlia

I have a Dahlia that is the flat daisy type.  It blooms flowers that are a very pretty pink/mauve with a yellow centre.  Every year I lift it to check for damage and re plant it.  It blooms heavily and EVERY YEAR it throws out 1 bloom that is peach/orange in colour and all the rest are pink/mauve.  Does anyone know, is it a specific variety or is it just unusual
Many thanks

Many dahlias do react to the weather by changing colour to some extent, but maybe in your case it could just be that a single small tuber has been included among those of another more vigorous variety. Perhaps one day it might manage more flowers!
  • When you lift it in the autumn, carefully separate each piece of tuber, box them seperately and plant out with a small space between each tuber. I am assuming it is a border dahlia, not one of the giant types. When they flower next year you will be able to see which tuber it is growing from.
If you really want to see what is going on.
Then you can grow on the interloper separately, maybe give it some extra TLC to increase its growth of tubers, grow it on in a pot for a couple of years etc.
  • Thank you

Think some dahlias need to make up their minds what colour they're going to be. As @Fire said, the Mallen Streak strikes again.
