Pull out lychnis and sprinkle seed or just cut down to few inches?

Hello again the lychnis looks so shabby but I’m not sure what to do with it…is it biennial?

I cut mine down to the basal leaves today, except for a few that were all brown at the base - I pulled those ones out.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

I think these are short lived perennials, rather than just biennial but they do seem to die off quite quickly. I cut them back but you can also give a gentle pull of the rosette and if they are done, they normally just pull away without any effort.
They are the one self seeder that seems to really like our poor soil and we always have dozens spring up.
