unusual plant popped up.....

this vivid unusual plant has grown quite quickly, and flowered once -the flower lasts for 1 day only, blossoming from what looks like a furled umbrella. It is now on its second flower, which developed after I removed the first flower stem

    I remove only the spent flower and not cut the stem as the next flower is also formed in the same receptacle. Sorry the picture is not quite clear but you can see the remnant of a spent flower and the next bud is coming from the same bend of the stem.
