Calathea ornata- yellowing leaves

Hi!
I have purchased a miniature calathea ornata because I did not want to splurge on a larger size since I've heard they can be pretty fussy (I've guessed right
)
At first, it produced three new leaves and grew nicely.... however.... all of a sudden, the leaves turned yellow and brown, starting at the top and spreading to the base.... and then dying out in a few days. Others were curled up for a few days but now they are as spread as before.
I have no idea what is the reason for it. At first, I thought it was the air conditioner (heat wave) but then I stopped using it and the leaves are still turning slowly dying.
Any experiences?
