Falling yellow leaves on ornamental olive tree HELP!

Hello everyone, 3 weeks ago I bought this new olive grove and planted it in a self-watering pot, it is located on a balcony with enough light and I have only watered once a week.

don't know what causes the leaves to drop, but I'm attaching some pictures to help me figure it out. Thanks.

Even evergreen trees lose leaves ... it's just that they do it all the time, rather than all at once as deciduous trees do in the autumn.

Your tree looks perfectly healthy to me ... that leaf loss seems perfectly normal ... I don't think that there's anything to concern you at the moment.  :)

I would add that although olive trees don't like having their roots in damp soil so need free-draining soil, they do need quite a bit of water.  A really good soak once a week until it runs out of the drainholes at the bottom of the pot and then leave it to drain.

What will damage it is sitting in a sump of water, so I hope that white pot has good drainage.

  • Dovefromabove, thanks for your comment, yes it has a good drainage system
