Sweetcorn plants (Sweet Bantam variety)

Hi,
Can anyone advise me please, my sweetcorn plants are approximately 7 feet tall and have had male tassels for the last two/three weeks but no visible sign of any corn ears at all. The plants have been regularly watered so can't understand why this is happening. Do you think the plants are lacking in some nutrient? Is it too late for the ears to form now?
They were planted in a heavy clay soil which we enriched with compost, chicken manure pellets and fish, bone and blood fertilizers before planting out.
This is a new garden for us as we moved house, its south facing...this has never happened before when we grew sweetcorn in our previous NW facing garden!
Thank you

Sometimes there’s quite a gap between the male flowers developing and the cobs forming .., I wouldn’t be worrying about it.

  • when did you start the seeds?
  • golden batam can take 75-85 days from germination to produce a harvest.
