Chilli plant VERY leggy

Hi Folks, I’m no Monty Don so looking to see if someone can give me some advice. I grew a chilli plant from seed packet and it’s grown quite well.
It has now produced one little chilli.
However it’s getting very tall and leggy and bending to one side.
Should I snip it at the top? Will this help it start to grow out to the side?
I have no idea how to tend to the plant other than to feed it with tomato food.
Thanks for your help.

The problem is not enough light.

Not sure where you are but around here it's going to be HOT for the next couple of weeks - if you're going to have similar weather it will be much happier outside.
You'll need to harden it off first (you don't want your baby getting sunstroke!) by putting it somewhere sheltered where it gets a little sun and over the course of about 10-14 days, get it used to full sun. It will need staking as it's very lanky.
I used to grow them against a south facing wall and they done very well.
Keep an eye on the watering - they can dry out quickly on a hot day.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • Thanks for the info. It has spent its life so far sitting on my windowsill in work where it gets non stop sunlight (unless it’s not sunny that day!).
I will try putting it outside for a change.

Light from a window is not usually enough.
