Can anyone help me identify this very large wasp?

Hello all! My first post here:
I live in North Carolina and yesterday morning I found this large hornet or wasp dead in my grass. We had seen quite a few European Hornets about a month ago but these markings are not consistent with them. Thanks for the help!

That's a beetle. I'm not familiar with North American insects and I'd need to see it from the top to help more than that but you should be able to Google large beetles in your location for more help. Otherwise I can recommend uploading the photos to iNaturalist.org for help from local experts.
