Mystery Wildflower

SmudgesDadSmudgesDad Posts: 61

There are several of these growing in the field behind my house. They are quite hard, almost like a succulent and about 30cm tall. I’m not sure if they are the flower or seed head. Does anyone know what they are?

    some sort of burnet possibly

    Billericay - Essex

If you take one of the succulent red bits off and crush it, does it smell oniony or garlicky? It looks like one of the onions that produce lots of bulbils  instead of seed.

Possibly Allium vineale or crow garlic

Thanks all. I’ve been out and squished a bit of one and there is a definite garlic/onion smell so having looked up the suggestion for crow garlic I’m now pretty sure that’s what it is.
    Thank you again.
