Help! Waldo Blackberry new cane is very long.

My Waldo Blackberry Bush, planted this year has lots of ripening fruit. A new thick cane has emerged and is now almost 6 feet long. Should I shorten it or let it grow as long as it wants? It is growing against South facing wall in a large pot.

I left mine to grow,  it went along it’s trellis and back again the other side.
You need to cut out all the fruiting wood right down to the ground after harvesting and tie in the new shoots.

Thanks @Lyn.  All the slender stems that were on the plant when it arrived have fruited and I was expecting to see maybe a couple of new canes this season which would need to be tied in and supported. I wasn't expecting just one enormous one! It is so thick, it can only grow in one direction. No sign of any others just yet.

I've had a Waldo for about 4 years now.
Mine sends out 4-5 new shoots each year, and as you say they are very long - at least 8ft or more.
When I bought it the blurb said they get only to about 6ft.
But, I find they're quite easy to control by gently encouraging them in the right direction then looping the stems back on themselves on the wire above.
The stems growing this year are those 3 on the lower left of the plant (there are also 2 shoots on the other side not quite as long)

Wow! Thanks for the info  @Pete.8. What a great photo, Waldo looks really good. I shall have to rethink the support system.  I only have a T shaped area of wall to play with, which once  supported a grapevine. Vine eyes go up,  from  ground level, between two windows  for approx 8 ft  and then go horizontally above the windows across the whole  width of the house.  We'll have to remove the windows 😄.

    😁
Once this year's berries are picked (which will be around the end of July) I cut out the old canes that have fruited and tie the new canes in place. The new canes are still bendy enough to train them.

There's only the one huge cane at the moment. Lots of berries on this year's  though. Can't see any other canes emerging.  I will see where I can train the new cane to. Thank you for your help. Much appreciated. 😊
