Wilted potatoes

Does anybody know what's happened to my Vivaldi potatoes? I have one bed of Ratte on the right which are doing really well and the Vivaldis are on the left which have all wilted and fallen over. This happened before the really hot v weather came along and I initially thought maybe they needed a bit more water to perk them up but that didn't help! Obviously they won't be ready yet but I'm wondering if they're a lost cause and to dig them up to see if I can still use them...

They seem to be leggy and have thin stems therefore not able to hold the tops up. I'm wondering if they are short of light? Difficult to tell from the photo.

That possibly sheds a different light on the problem. Are you sure they aren't short of water because all of that foliage would need quite a lot to keep it upright?

How long have they been in? They should be ready at about 16 weeks but that varies with weather conditions. I would try one from the edge and see what crop you have. As a second early they will be waxy when small but become larger and more floury if you leave them longer until the shaws die down.
  • To be fair they did go in earlier than I intended as I'd forgotten about them and they had already sprouted! So they might not be too far off harvesting anyway...🤞 Will have a dig and let you know!
