I bought ‘city of york’ to grow up the front of the house, but discovered yesterday that where I want to plant it is all concrete! So what size pot would be best?
I know City of York as a pretty vigorous rose .... is there any chance of planting it in the ground somewhere not quite at the base of the house wall, and training it towards the wall?

As said before I wouldn’t put it in a pot to get the best from it .If there really isn’t an alternative then get the largest pot you can and hope for the best ,but better in the ground really ,they have big tap roots that need to be in the earth.

The concrete is about 50cm out from the house and I’m intending to keep it gravelled (I was just going to clear an area for the rose) so growing it over isn’t an option. Only other option is putting it in pretty much full shade and training it along, but I’m not sure if it would have enough sun to get started
Edit, growing over isn’t an option because I’ll be using it as a path to access that side once it’s planted
