Joy and despair

I love June, hard hard work is evident, beautiful blooms and scents, it’s amazingly therapeutic. Then there is the other side, real despair. Both sides of nature showing you can’t live on cloud nine all the time. Lovely dovey with gorgeous flowers is only one half of the story. This morning I did my tour of the garden, recently planted hostas and geraniums all over the garden. Potted rose and 2 tomato potted plants dug up, several bedding plants destroyed. Only one culprit, those cute grey squirrels. There is some damage every day caused by these creatures, I have tried many things but no joy. Then I have mite on a 20 year old fuchsia, which I cut down. A Laurel tree awaiting some surgery. So all in all it’s a standard day full of joy and despair.

Yes that's gardening dbhattuk. I suspect we might get a little bored with it if a few challenges weren't thrown into the equation.

@Uff, thanks. Yes indeed. I do love a challenge but those squirrels can drive you potty. Lots of hard work and expense, just destroyed. I have just retired and taking more care and studying about plants. So I chose plants carefully, take great advice from folks in the forum, do my research, source the plants and grow them in the right environment. A squirrel comes along and all is destroyed in a blink of an eye. I do find that tough but I have to learn.

Yes, I know what you mean. Sometimes I think that I'll never grow another plant either from seed or a bought one. My greatest annoyance in the garden is slugs, snails and mice. I know they have as much right to be there as I do but I wish they would take a holiday from this garden and give me a break.
