Fly ID?

New to the discussions so will have missed any previous posts on identification of this metallic-yellow fly. It was hard to catch stationary so only a single photo at a distance.

Not brilliant photo of golden metallic fly (it flew off) Long abdomen but not as long as dragonfly. Any suggestions please.

Hard to tell..  Maybe some kind of wasp? There are about 900 species I think.
How big is it, was it visiting any particular plants?

Looks like a bee to me but we don't get any that fancy in the UK as far as I know. Where are you @marg.ince ?

    Thanks for comments.
    - We live in The East Midlands.
    - Insect was flying around near to garden pond. I guess it was ~1.5cm - so initially thought either a small dragonfly-type or a hornet (we get both) but never seen such  shiny metallic golden colouration..

Well I'm stumped. My best guess is that the golden colour is caused by a dusting of pollen and that's just throwing off the ID of what might just be a fairly common bee. Maybe a blue mason bee or something similar which would be a bit shiny under the pollen.
