Potting on peonies

AnniDAnniD Posts: 11,420
I know that peonies prefer to be in the ground, but last year a neighbour gave me 3 sections from different peonies. They were in big pots, but when l looked closer they were just tiny,  so l repotted them into 5 inch pots.
They are now looking very healthy although no sign of flowers which to be honest l didn't expect. I still have no space for them in the garden but l don't know what to do next.

Do l pot them on into the next size pot like "ordinary" plants, or do l put them into the big pots that they will probably be in for a couple of years, now they have better root systems ?
Any advice gratefully received  :)

@AnniD I usually pot up peony bareroots in a small 4L rose pot and they go into the ground next year. They start flowering in their 3rd year. HTH.

I'd pot on until they're big enough and healthy enough to be planted out, or into a bigger pot. It's counter productive to over pot anything small.
They won't flower for a few years.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Here is a photo of 2 bareroots I potted up around January/Feb showing some growth.
