French/Runner Beans not germinating at all :(

for the first year ever I cannot get them to germinate. Tried twice indoors (got too leggy as it was still too cold) and again outside 2 weeks ago and there is no sign of life.....I did exactly what I've always done. Too much rain??

If they got leggy, that must mean they germinated?
I'm having issues this year too, mainly with an infestation of tiny black slugs which have eaten the base of most of the plants so I'm starting again - popped some in the ground but am mainly relying on a new sowing indoors . But yes, it's too cold out for any growth really.

I'm in London too - but we've had nights down to 5 or 6° recently, and the last few days haven't gone much above 14°. We've also had warmer, of course, but those kinds of temperatures will certainly keep beans checked.

I direct sowed some a month ago and thought all the rain may have rotted them. I popped out today in between all the showers and saw a couple have sprouted, so there still maybe hope for you

I've re-sown trays full of seed several times since March with only about 25% success each time.  Fortunately, as always, I've kept several hundred seeds from last year so my problem is only inconvenience.

We have had trouble with carrots, peas and dwarf french beans...oh and beetroot. Sown indoors/outdoors and very very poor germination. Have to keep trying but when I can buy a kilo of carrots in my supermarket for 29p I do wonder why I am spending so much on seed packets!

I had the same qualms, Siobhan. I sowed my French beans in a raised bed with warmish soil on May 16th then … nothing. Yesterday I was on the cusp of googling how to induce them. But, spurred by your post, I have just popped over to the vegetable garden and seen the first two have germinated. I bet yours will follow on their heels.
