Peony relocating

I inherited a peony shrub like the one below, and I don't like it. Once it's finished flowering, can I dig it up and separate it? How do I keep the bulbs/corms safe? I leave unwanted plants outside for people to take, but last time they took the bucket as well as the bulbs, so I don't really want to be buying big pots at my own expense to give it to strangers, lol!

Can you put it in a compost sack?

Autumn is the best time to divide them, so you should have a few compost sacks or maybe carrier bags by then :)

Can I be your neighbour, please? :) That's a lovely thing to do.

Lots of people do it round here, there must be a load of my crocosmias in the neighbourhood by now! 🤣 There's a lady who makes little bunches of gorgeous flowers and sells them for a quid - we still have honesty boxes too, I love it!

Oh gawd I can't wait till autumn, I've already got salvias waiting to replace it! 😄
They're nice enough plants, but the bees can't get in the flowers, and they're too short lived for my preference.
