Bird seed

What's the best mixed seed you've found, without a hefty price tag?
I'm getting through 20kg of Peckish Complete every fortnight that I add oats to, but the sparrows can't eat half of the seed, so they throw it out the feeders. (I have plenty of ground feeding dishes too).

I use Garden Wildlife Direct - their no mess one, which is far more economical. The last bag has rather more wheat/barley in it than I would like though, so I may look around for another. I did bookmark one place, so I'll have a look and see if I can find it. They're slightly dearer, but there's no delivery charge, so it can be similar if you're buying something else at the time.
I don't really feed the seed mix through summer though - just sunflower hearts.  :)

This is the one I buy. Varies from batch to batch but the birds seem happy each time.

    I use this https://www.notcutts.co.uk/notcutts-robin-mix-1-9kg-00511220

for the narrow-beaked insectivores such as robins, dunnocks and wrens, and sunflower hearts for the finches, blackbirds etc.  There's virtually no waste from either.

I’ve bought this one for as long as I can remember,  the price has just gone up from £20.00 but I buy 2 at a time so it’s cheaper,  every bit gets eaten and nothing grows.

I bought sunflower hearts a couple of weeks ago - the sparrows completely ignored that feeder!!
Going for a look at your suggestions. 👍

What are we all going to do when there are no sunflower hearts because of the war in Ukraine?

Housesparrows love the Robin mix that I referred to above. Especially in a feeder in front of our window (right by some shrubs and a trellis covered with clematis) … the sparrows queue up in the shrubs and clematis and chatter away … I can watch them from here on the sofa. 😊
