Help! What is wrong with my runner bean plants/tomato plants

Just wondered if anyone can shed any light as to what is wrong with my bean plant leaves? Can it be fixed? In the second photo you can see the end of one of the leaves seems to have shrivelled up and gone crispy, then disintegrated in the middle. I can not see any pests on any of the plants, I have noticed tiny black fly hovering around but can't see any on the plants. I live in Switzerland and it has been very hot for the last 2 weeks - 28/29 degrees and thats when I first spotted the problem.  My tomato plant leaves seem to be similar to the second photo of the bean plant, shrivelled/crispy at end, although they're not as bad as the bean plants.

Any chance of a small slug or snail rootling around in there?

If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.
  • no i've searched all around, nothing there. Should also add we live on the 6th floor.  IT does look like a snail trail though but i'm wondering if its a bacterial disease

It does look more like they're being eaten by something.

Runner beans aren't particularly prone to disease but there is a type of blight that affects them - did you buy the seeds in a packet or are they saved from last year's plants?

In Pic2 it looks as though the vine has grown up out of shot.  If so, I should monitor that and, if it looks healthy, ignore the lower leaves.  I appreciate your 6th floor location but, for me, growing beans in pots is always difficult.  Getting enough moisture and nutrition to them might be improved if you stand the pots in a bowl/saucer of some sort so that you can keep it full of a liquid feed mix to keep them happy.  You may ultimately have to bite the bullet and balance the token feed you get against the trouble taken to produce it?
