Will these reduced price seed potatoes grow?

EustaceEustace Posts: 1,994

Today I spotted the seed potato packs in Wilko reduced to 5p. Most of them seem to have already started sprouting. Will they grow if planted now? I bought Albert Bartlett Vivaldi seed potatoes as they had only growth similar to ones that are chitted. Is it too late for planting them? Thanks for your help.

Yes if they have shoots, and you can plant them soon  you will get a crop. The hardest thing is usually getting them out of the netting bag without knocking off the shoots.

Thanks @Allotment Boy the seed potatoes I picked up are in polythene bags with holes and the sprouts are less than about 5 cms; not overly long.

For those looking for seed potatoes, they had different varieties like Cara, kestrel, jazzy, Casablanca etc. - all 5p each. Onion sets and garlic bulbs were marked down to 15 or 20p. I didn't pay much attention to the varieties as I didn't buy them. HTH.
