Evergreen hardy climber for fence

Hello! We’re looking for a nice looking climber to grow up a fence, in a west facing spot (south facing garden) so does get a fair bit of sun & wind ! Evergreen if possible to give interest year round to a currently dismal spot in the garden :)

How hardy does it need to be?
A lovely evergreen climber is Trachelospermum Jasminoides (Star Jasmine).
It has lush evergreen foliage and in summer is smothered in highly scented flowers. A west facing fence would be ideal.
They thrive here, but it's not hardy throughout the UK

  • Sounds great! Just hardy in terms of full sun most of the day in spring - autumn and gets the brunt of south west winds!

They love the sun, but don't like to dry out at the roots.
So if you get one ensure it has enough water over the summer.
Winds won't bother it either, but it may drop some leaves over winter.
The scent on a summer's evening is very strong
It will need some support on your fence initially, but after a couple of years the woody framework will keep it in place
