. Could it be Creeping Buttercup? (I once mistook this for a hardy geranium and transplanted it - mistake!)

It probably is Creeping Buttercup. It’s the most common one in gardens.

Ok thank you both. I was hoping it might be a different kind of Ranunculus. But it seems to be spreading so maybe I’ll dig it up.

Spreading is what Creeping Buttercup does … ‘creeping’ implies a
stealthy invasion
… not usually much stealth about it in my experience 😆

I'd dig it up as soon as you can or it will become a nuisance. (Nice leaves though!)
