What is eating my Iris buds?

Has anyone seen this before? My Iris buds have been hollowed out. Foliage mostly untouched which makes me think it’s not slugs and snails?

    Hello @Sazz101, I'd hazard a guess that it is slug damage - the bud is probably much more softer and succulent than the leaves. It does look unusual though, I haven't seen it before.
