Asking for a friend who's DiL planted sweet peas, then found these little orange 'eggs' ?
I think slug eggs are white, but wouldn't have been laid on the top of the soil ??

Looks like a Morning Glory has snuck in among the sweet peas

@Dovefromabove also suggested it's a fungus which is breaking down the compost to provide nutrients for your plant - so they are the good guys
