Unidentified intruder

In 50 years my wife has never got so excited over animal droppings. I must admit I've not seen anything remotely like it. Our garden is fully enclosed, even the neighbours cats have a hard time penetrating the boundaries. Maybe I should have posted an attachment but I thought I'd show a little consideration in case you don't have the same enthusiasm as David Attenborough. So if you can identify the animal that left a cluster of four or five dark almost black smallish date shaped pellets right in the middle of our lawn then I'd be very interested  to know what you think it might be. I would be surprized if its anything other than a large bird because I can't see how a land animal other than possibly a hedgehog or rodent could get in

Sounds like either a rabbit, or a rat [the shape sounds more likely for that]  but a photo would definitely help  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

We’re a hardy bunch, you wouldn’t be the first to post a picture of it  and you won’t be the last so let’s see it!

Looks hedgehoggy to me, can you see any insect remains in there?

    I'd agree with @Jellyfire.
When you said small, I was expecting something a lot smaller than that.   :)
