Limp purple broccoli

Hi

Having grown my purple sprouting broccoli from seed, I transferred them into the garden and netted them, leaving plenty of height for them to grow into, but yesterday I noticed that most of them were looking rather leggy and falling over, they have been in the ground for 2 weeks prior to this, and watered regularly, any ideas as to why?

Something could be nibbling them from underneath!!
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

Have they got cabbage root fly? There will be tiny maggots in the roots.

I think the problem may have been the netting, I took the netting off on Friday, they were very limp, I watered them, and on Friday night it rained, yesterday the sun shone and the broccoli seemed to recover, but some are still a bit leggy.
