Indoor irrigation

I've got a new Croton plant! πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜€
The decorative pot that I've ordered doesn't have drainage holes. Can I add moist pebbles to the bottom of the decorative pot, or to the top of the plant instead of using a saucer?

I'll keep the pot it came in so that it sits on top of the pebbles inside the decorative pot. I hope that makes sense. Thanks!Β

Yes, but you will have to check regularly that the plant is not sitting in water, because that will kill it.

You don't tell us what the original pot was made of but, if it's plastic, I should run a drill through it 3 or 4 times?

    It's plastic with drainage holes.Β
