Wasps or bees

Can any tell me if this is a wasp or bee doing this, found it under my greenhouse shelf. Picture supplied.
If I am not going to get swams of bees or wasps I will leave it there.
Many thanks in advance

That is a wasp nest, possibly from last year. If you don't have wasps coming and going to it then it is an old one and can be removed safely.
  • Thank you for your reply, have now seen a single wasp going to it and building it up, will it remain a solitary wasp it will I get a swarm if I leave it.
    Thanks

I would imagine that you will have quite a few wasps in time, I'd get shut of it now before it gets big.

Is the nest in a place you could leave it be for the summer?

We had 5 or 6 wasps' nests  hanging from the roof in our sheep shed  last summer and they were no trouble at all. If you leave them alone they will leave you alone. The wrens are now using one of the nests to build their nest in :)
If the new nest is in an awkward place or anyone in the family is allergic you will probably need to remove it, but do take a moment to marvel at the construction if you can :)

I would imagine a greenhouse full of wasps will be quite a challenge, especially if you still want to use your greenhouse.
  • Thank you for all your comments will see how it progresses. Hopefully I can leave it alone.

A friendly prevention to the nesting if you don't want them back next year is to hang up a decoy wasp nest which deters them. However being a nature lover I would welcome them.

  • Thank you for that will see how it goes.
