Help identifying a Grass that has started popping up?

AcuwellAcuwell Posts: 87
Hi

This grass has suddenly started sprouting up in various areas of my borders and I have no idea what it is (don't think it was there last year - our first year in this house).  Can anyone identify it please?  Also am a bit worried it's going to be invasive given it's appearance in more than one part of the garden (apologies for sideways picture - still can't work out how to rotate them!).  Thank you.

You have to reduce the size of the photo a bit.

I think it is Carex Pendula. It can be a pest, especially in damp gardens. I've dug quite a bit out of my garden, I think the previous owner must have liked it.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Oh yes, horrible stuff. Don’t give it house room.
Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.

It is becoming a serious issue in streams and wild ponds
Looking forward to my new garden with clay soil here in South Notts.

Gardening is so exciting I wet my plants.

Dreadful stuff, and what's more worrying is the fact that it can still be sold in GC etc  :/
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Sedge, get it out or it'll take over. Big clumps are easy to lift though.

Thank you folks!  I nipped off the grass heads yesterday and am off out to dig them all out today before they get any bigger - will just have to watch out for any "babies" that might have already self-seeded.  So much to learn!  This Forum is great though and I really appreciate all your good advice and help.
