Vine Weevil control

HI, just wanted to see if anyone has any advice on controlling vine weevil in my pots. For years now I just pick them out when cleaning any plants from my window boxes etc. However today I was clearing out a window box and I must have picked out over 30! Does anyone have any easier organic alternatives to my problem.

    Vine weevil Nematodes.
I get mine from Amazon  :)
    Nottinghamshire.
    Failure is always an option.

The soil has to be warm enough for Nematodes to be effective, so you have to be aware of that before buying and applying.
It's the only non chemical method, although some people have had good results by applying grit to the top of their containers as it helps prevent the  adults laying eggs.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Yep. Grit on top of all pots. Not had any losses since.

Will try the grit on my pots, how deep should the layer be?

The grit just needs to cover the soil.

They lay their eggs on the soil and don’t like to do so on grit.

I put it as close to the middle of the plant as possible and then put a thin layer on so that you can’t see any soil.

I currently have two epimedium and three heuchera and three beautiful ferns that I’ve kept weevil grub free for four years even though I see the adults on the leaves at night. It also helps with moisture retention and weeds so it’s a win win really.

Excellent...will purchase some grit over the weekend.

    Thanks very much.
  • Likewise, I'll go looking for some grit too. Seems like the best alternative.
