Unknown plant

My daughter has recently purchased a bungalow and has this unknown plant popping up all over her drive. Would appreciate any advice as to what it is and how to control

Horsetail. Almost impossible to eradicate, but regular hoeing can weaken it. Weedkillers are rarely very effective, although bruising the foliage and applying regularly can help. Be vigilant with the fruiting spores which look different, and remove those when you see them. You'll get plenty of photos by googling. 

It's been around since the dawn of time, and will outlive everything else on the planet.
