We tend to cut back once they are starting to seed especially if they are falling over a path.

I can't help because I've never grown them but just wanted to say they are lovely darren hanson 134. I love the two blues together on one flower.

If you don't cut them back, they will look very manky in a few weeks time.

  • Should I take just the bloom off or the whole stem?

Love the dual shades of blue too. I have dual yellow ones. They spread by rhizome rather than seeds so I just cut the whole stem and hope the leaves give enough energy.

I remove the individual dead heads as they die and leave the stems to die off before removing them. In September I cut the foliage down to about 4/5 ins. with a diagonal cut, leaving a fan shaped stump.
