Azelias stopped flowering after 3 years

Hi all. My azelias did well on a north aspect raised bed for 3 years then the last two years they haven’t flowered. They are in a bit of a rain shadow but it seems odd that they did well to start off with. Any ideas?

    Rhodos/azaleas need lots of water in late summer/early autumn. That's when the buds are formed for the following year. If they're in a rain shadow, that's likely to be the reason. The foliage also prevents water getting in easily, unless you live in a much wetter area.
    If they go short, the buds are rejected in favour of maintaining the top growth/foliage. 

    It's a common problem for them failing to flower  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Ok I see. Thank you. I’ll set up a bit of irrigation for them in that case.
