what type of tree is this

hi, newbie here so go gentle. We have this tree in our garden and don't really know what type it is and how to look after it. its getting rather big now and wondering how to prune/chop it so its not as big . it is very prickly and the pines drop a lot. any help and guidance is much appreciated.

Grows very fast.
Very near to your house.
Maybe better to remove it completely before it gets huge.

thanks for response. I was thinking probably best to remove before gets to big. there's no way of pruning it then? thanks

It’ll look the ugliest thing on earth if it’s pruned. They’re so elegant that folk fall in love with them … but they grow huuuge!!!

Used to have one in our garden, to be honest l agree with the others and l would remove it ASAP.
 Look on it as a planting opportunity
