For difficult situations in shady, dry soil, I use Euphorbia Amygdaloides var. robbiae as easy ground cover.  It is evergreen and has bright lime green flowers held on tall stems from early spring.  Most bulbs will struggle in that situation.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

Are these roots of a growing tree or left over from one that has been cut down?
