Looking for a small dark purple Buddliea

Robert WestRobert West Posts: 219
Hello,

I'm trying to find a really dark purple (darker the better) Buddliea that will grow to approx 4ft across.

I've seen some online that sound perfect but they're only available in the US. Does anybody know of a good online UK supplier that sells such things?

Thanks in advance

Robert

You could try Burncoose Nursery, They have a huge selection of plants - of all kinds.  :)

There are what's called patio buddleias - Buddleia Buzz, but I don't know how good they are, or whether they come in dark purple.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

The nearest one to what you're looking for (that l can think of) is "Buzz Indigo"

Look at Buzz Indigo, I have one, lovely dark purple colour and gets to about 4ft. Mine came from a local garden centre but there are suppliers online.

I grow Buzz Indigo in a container and its flowers are pretty dark. It grew to about 3 feet across last year.

A quick Google will show some places do sell it online e.g. Sarah raven, Thompson and Morgan, Suttons plus some independent nurseries. As well as burncoose nursery I suggest looking at ashwood nursery, they have a range of plants at excellent prices and delivery and customer service has always been good for me.

I used to have Dark Knight which was a very dark purple, but it wasn't a patio type.
It'd get to about 6ft+ tall and about 3-4 ft wide.
Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • Another vote here for buzz indigo. I have 2 in wooden thoughts, reliable and easy to care for, and definitely good for my smaller space.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

Thank you for the suggestions. This may sound like a silly question but is the Indigo, more of a blueish purple? Ideally I'd like a really deep violet colour to match the verbascums I've planted. @BlueBirder the one in your photo looks perfect but the name suggests it would be more... Indigo. Lol

Dark Knight is the perfect colour and I have two of those already, but I think it would grow too big for the spot I have for this one.

@Robert West It's not really indigo at all, definitely not got blue tones IMO. What verbascum have you planted? I have Verbascum phoenicium Violetta and the buddleia is darker than that, if that helps - but same kind of warm tones.

Sarah raven's photo looks to be a good representation of the colour to me.
